So before we jump into crocheting, patterns and all that, let's talk yarn prep.
Now, this step is not always necessary. If you've walked down the yarn isle at your local craft store, you would notice that there are many different textures to yarn. Soft, coarse, thick, thin, sachay, and others.
Sometimes the colors I want aren't in the textures that I want.
For instance, the project I'm working on next is going to include my green and yellow yarn left over from another project. I did not previously soften this yarn because I didn't need to for my last project, but I will be using this yarn for a blanket and I'd like it to be softer.
After we soften it, it won't be this big fluffy yarn, it was just take away that itchy-ness from the yarn.
Ok, so to soften your yarn, you will need a mesh bag like I have pictured. It will obviously need to be big enough to hold your yarn. Washing it in the mesh bag will keep the yarn from getting frayed and torn up in your washer and dryer.
Place your yarn in the mesh bag, and throw it in the washer on the delicate cycle. I always use my normal laundry detergent and fabric softener. Once it's done I take the yarn, still in the mesh bag, and put it straight into the dryer on a low tumble dry setting with a dyer sheet.
Once your yarn is dry, it should be softer and ready to use!
I hope you enjoyed this tip! I will be posting soon about my next project :)
